Artist Nghiem Thu
The first person I want to mention in the inspirational section, is also the person who inspired me with the Ty Ba Viet Nam, the teacher who gave me the first fingers: Ms. Nghiem Thu.
Artist and Teacher Nghiem Thu (Nghiem Thi Kim Thu) is currently a teacher of the Ty Ba at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. Before falling in love with teaching in Ho Chi Minh City, she studied at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music) and had a time with the Vietnam National Opera and Dance Theater. She is known as one of the founding members of Co La – a one-time cult band with a contemporary folk style.
The Co La band is famous for its combination of traditional and contemporary folk music.
Artist Nghiem Thu has been teaching the Ty Ba for many years in Hanoi. From 2017 to now, she moved to work at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. Here, she continued to teach many students, and at the same time founded the group Ty Viet, with many young people participating in the performance of the Ty Ba forum. The image of young female singers performing on the pedestrian street, performing on Bach Dang wharf and on television programs has become a new feature in the musical life in Ho Chi Minh City.
